Put a creative spin on your annual report

Writing an annual report can be a daunting prospect especially if this is your first one. However, annual reports are a great way of boasting about your achievements over the past year. Plus if you convert it to digital format and add it to your website, your annual report could actually help you reach a higher ranking with search engines.

Here are a few essential tips as to how to plan and put together an annual report:

  • Always start with your key achievements: what are you most proud of having accomplished over the past year.
  • Emphasise the activities where your company has a competitive edge. Your annual report IS a marketing opportunity NOT just a financial document.
  • If you want to talk about your plans for the future, limit this to the executive summary or a specific section at the end of your report – an annual report’s aim is to summarise what has already happened.
  • Don’t go into too much detail: readers will want to hear about the company’s achievement as a whole, not the particular work of individual teams or members of staff.
  • Be very careful about your numbers – double and triple check them before publishing your report. As a matter of fact, ensure that your report is carefully proofread by a number of people.
  • Make it interesting: be creative with the way your numbers, graphs, tables are published and use good photographs to illustrate your work.
